Static electricity is a problem that can impact product quality, throughput and worker safety in many industries. In electronics and media, ESD Electrostatic Discharge affects semiconductor manufacturing, electronics assembly, flat panel display & hard disk drive production, and film processing. In industrial, food, telecom, textile, packaging, chemical, medical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, static electricity creates problems with cling and particulates such as in the processing of paper, fabrics, plastics, powders and other materials.
Surface Resistance/Resistivity Measurements
In addition to the applications noted below, Trek's products are finding utility in photovoltaic solar applications where there is an increasing trend to make resistance measurements on thin film solar panels. Trek’s instruments measure the surface resistance or resistivity of materials and objects to determine if they are in the proper resistance range to safely dissipate static charge to ground, thus precluding ESD events.

Measurement capabilities:
Probe Options:
ESD Test Equipment, ESD Audit Equipment
Locate and Measure Static Charge Levels
Trek’s handheld meters are used to audit Electrostatic Protected Areas (EPA) for surface voltage (which correlates to static charge accumulation). Trek’s “PO” models offer a probe and cable design for additional versatility.
Trek Product: 520, 523, PO876A, PO884A
ESD Event Detector
Trek’s ESD event detector is used to locate the source of ESD events associated with the “charge device model”.
Trek Product: 900A
Ionization Calibration and Auditing
Trek’s charged plate monitors are used to measure the balance and decay time associated with air ionization systems and are designed for use in bench test, set up, in situ performance check and calibration (ANSI/ESD STM3.1-2000, ESD SP3.3-2000).
Trek Product: 156A, 156A/1, 157, 156AP-C150x150-R3M, 156AP-C25x25-S3M
Material Dissipation Testing
Trek’s charged plate monitors are used to make material dissipation measurements by applying the “time required for discharge” technique (STM4.2-1998, IEC 61340-2-1).
Trek Product: 156A, 156A/1, 157
Site Specific Contacting Voltage Measurement
Trek’s instruments are used to make site specific contacting or noncontacting electrostatic voltage measurement of a surface.
Trek Product: 800
Static Charge Monitoring
Trek’s instruments and sensors are used to monitor the static charge levels on products.
Trek Product: 341B, 541, 542A, 875
Note:
DC feedback electrostatic voltmeters provide precise electrostatic voltage measurements.
AC feedback electrostatic voltmeters provide accurate electrostatic voltage measurements at a lower cost.
Electrostatic fieldmeters provide low cost and relatively accurate electric field measurements when used with a fixed probe-to-surface spacing
