"On-orbit Potential Measurement of H-H Transfer Vehicle (HTV)"

This paper, written by researchers at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT), was presented at the 2014 Spacecraft Charging Technology Conference. It explores the topic of surface potential measurement as it relates to ionospheric plasma and surface charging (and discharge) of spacecraft surfaces in low orbit. The research utilized a Trek electrostatic voltmeter probe developed specifically for the project (Trek 3G); it was incorporated in the test unit module, Advanced Technology On-orbit Test Instrument for space Environment-mini (Atotie-mini), and installed on HTV. The potential measurements were collected over the course of a month upon reaching orbit, after HTV launched on August 4, 2013.
